Dell Alienware Area-51 Spotted With R2 with a Desktop Processor

Dell, as part of the Alienware brand, introduced the new gaming laptop Area-51m R2. Today it is one of the most powerful laptops on the market – thanks to the use of Intel desktop processors of the tenth generation and the latest graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD. 

Inside the 4.7-pound Alienware Area-51m R2 case, a custom motherboard with the Z490 chipset is installed. As a processor, an eight-core Intel Core i7-10700 / 10700K or a ten-core Core i9-10900 / 10900K is offered. Support is provided for up to 64 GB of DDR4-2933 MHz RAM or up to 32 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz.

In the basic configuration of the laptop installed a discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with 6 GB of memory GDDR6. However, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB GDDR6), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (8 GB GDDR6), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (8 GB GDDR6) and AMD Radeon RX 5700M (8 GB GDDR6) are also available. By the way, this is the first laptop announced, equipped with AMD’s flagship mobile graphics processor Navi.

There are several options for storing data:

  • up to 2 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD
  • up to 512 GB PCIe M.2 + 1 TB HDD 7200 rpm
  • up to 4 TB RAID0 (2×2 TB NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD)
  • up to 2 TB (2 x 1 TB PCIe M.2 SSD) RAID0 [Boot] + 2 TB (2 x 1 TB PCIe M.2 SSD)

The resolution of the 17.3-inch screen can be 1080p or 4K. In the first case, options with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, 144 Hz + NVIDIA G-Sync or 300 Hz are possible, while the 4K display is presented in only one version at 60 Hz. However, in all versions there is support for Tobii Eyetracking gaze tracking technology.

The laptop has two 70-mm fans with 53 blades each. They cool the copper radiators, which are equipped with five copper alloy heat pipes, and vent hot air through openings in the back. In addition, all laptop configurations with a seven-phase VRM GPU or higher are equipped with a steam camera using Alienware Cryo-Tech technology.

The laptop will go on sale on June 9 at a price of $ 3,049.99 for the most affordable configuration.
